Original Edwardian boot from my personal collection with the classic pompadour heel

The pompadour heel, also known as a French heel, was characteristic of the boots in the early 1900's. It is recognized by its hourglass shape and placement closer to the center of the boot rather than at the back, resulting in a comfortable fit by distributing weight more evenly across the foot.

Presumably named after Madame De Pompadour, the official mistress of French King Louis XV from 1745 to 1751, the pompadour heel gained popularity from the 1700s to the early 1900s and was primarily worn by the upper class for many years. Madame Pompadour is often credited with popularizing the high and narrow curved heels at the French court, setting fashion trends among the aristocracy.

Here are two original Edwardian boots from my collection featuring the classic pompadour heel. My aim was to replicate the style of the original boot as closely as possible while ensuring the comfort and sizing of modern-day standards. The lace closure of the shoe is also inspired by the original shoes and helps to ensure a good fit.

You can see the resemblance between the original boots and my Rose boot. They're manufactured all in leather, with both a leather inner sole and outer sole. The lining inside is of cream white canvas, just like the original boots.
